Plastic Action Plan: France activates 12 measures to accelerate the reduction, reuse and recycling of plastic packaging
France pays €1.5 billion to the European Union each year because of its insufficient plastic packaging recycling performance. Only 26% of plastic packaging is recycled in France, compared with a European target of 50%. The plan is based on three pillars: reducing packaging, expanding reuse and improving recycling. Twelve measures were presented to industry representatives, local authorities, parliamentarians, associations and experts on 16 June 2026. A new national strategy for reducing, reusing and recycling packaging is due to be published in early 2027.
